I think most of us have a very limited and often negative experience of G-d. We either
relate to G-d as the fix it man, who is called on when life isn’t working out as expected,
the mystery man, whose relationship with us and the world is seems impossible to
understand, or the hidden man, who seems to be hiding.
Imagine experiencing G-d as your partner and friend? The truth is that He is always front
and center in our life sharing every moment, each twist and turn. When the car breaks
down on the freeway, instead of thinking, “I can’t believe this. This is the last thing I
need,” try an experiment. Say, “Okay, here we go Gd, another adventure with You. I
guess this is exactly what I need because You always want the best for me.”
We can fight Gd or trust Him. And since we believe in Him, why live a life of constant
frustration and pain when we can choose to enjoy the ride? After all, we’re already on it!
So why be miserable? Instead of seeing life as a frustrating obstacle course, why not see
it as an adventure with Gd? It’s a simple reframe, from Gd is against me to Gd loves me
and wants the best for me. There’s so much to gain and nothing to lose except a lot of
anxiety, anger, and mourning. So let’s try to let go and let Gd.
Life is really short and life is really hard. Instead of surviving the challenges while
waiting for the other shoe to drop, this one decision can transform the way we experience
life in a very powerful and positive way. I think this is something to consider as the New
Year approaches.
